Physical Land Requirements for cavendish banana project developement
The following criteria may be used for the assessment of land suitable for Cavendish Banana project development:

Legality |
Unencumbered, zoned Rural with unrestricted access to a sealed public thoroughfare. |

Size |
Comprising a single or multiple parcel(s) of adjoining or neighboring land, minimum of ten (10) hectares each, which may be replicated in close proximity to other similar parcels to increase project size to one hundred (100) hectares minimum in an area outside of Penang. |

Topography |
Flat to undulating (maximum 6° slope). Elevated & not flood prone or subject to water logging. |

Soil Type |
Friable, sandy-loam or sandy-clay soils with medium water retention & drainage properties
Peat soils are also suitable provided that the water table is more than 75 cm below the ground surface
Soil & water pH between 5.6 to 6.5 |

Water Source |
Unrestricted access to a source of permanent water either perennial river or under-ground, with a pH of 5.6 to 6.5 (preferred).
Irrigation may not be necessary where the rainfall exceeds 2,500 mm p.a. with even monthly distribution. |

Rainfall |
The minimum average annual rainfall is 1,500 mm. Uneven rainfall distribution may be off-set by the use of irrigation for which a permanent water source is required. (Ref. above). |

Location |
In close proximity (within 200km, preferred) to export shipping facilities and accessed via sealed roads. Areas in close proximity to other commercial or village planted bananas is to be avoided due to possible disease contamination. |
